Canvas

Canvas gives Lapis a visual workspace for mapping ideas, arranging notes, and working with JSON Canvas files without leaving the vault.

Use Canvas when a linear note is too narrow for the problem. It is designed for spatial thinking, not for replacing your notes.

Supported Functionality

• Open .canvas files in a dedicated visual editor.
• Create, move, resize, and arrange canvas cards.
• Use file nodes to place vault notes and files on the board.
• Group related cards together with JSON Canvas groups.
• Connect nodes with visible edges and arrow-ended relationships.
• Pan and zoom around larger boards without leaving the editor.
• Keep visual organization close to the rest of your vault content.

Working With Boards

Canvas is most useful when the layout carries meaning:

• Put related ideas near each other.
• Use groups to mark areas of attention.
• Use edge direction to show flow or dependency.
• Keep supporting notes available as file cards.

Compatibility

Canvas uses the JSON Canvas file format, so .canvas files remain ordinary vault files. The plugin focuses on editing and viewing those files inside the Lapis workspace.
